Exam Preparation

We recommend that you wear loose clothing for any exam, so you can remove or adjust clothing easily. The following are general guidelines. Please arrive for your procedure at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time.

Bone Densitometry (DEXA scan)

Do not take any calcium supplements the day of the exam. You may eat and drink normally. Please tell us if there is a chance you are pregnant. You must be able to lie flat.

CT SCAN

  • CT of Abdomen – You will take an oral solution when you arrive for your appointment. You may not eat or drink after taking the solution. You will be given detailed instructions when you make your appointment. Please tell us if you are allergic to iodine, seafood, have asthma, hay fever or are diabetic, or if there is a chance you are pregnant.
  • CT of Pelvis – An oral solution must be taken 3 hours before your appointment time. You may not eat or drink after taking the solution. You will be given detailed instructions when you make your appointment. Please tell us if you are allergic to iodine, seafood, have asthma, hay fever or are diabetic, or if there is a chance you are pregnant.
  • CT Head / Neck – Nothing to eat or drink three (3) hours before exam. You may take your normal medications. Please tell us if you are allergic to iodine, seafood, have asthma, hay fever or are diabetic, or if there is a chance you are pregnant.
  • CT Chest – Nothing to eat or drink three (3) hours before exam. You may take your normal medications. Please tell us if you are allergic to iodine, seafood, have asthma, hay fever or are diabetic, or if there is a chance you are pregnant.
  • CT Sinus – No preparation is necessary. Please tell us if you are allergic to iodine, seafood, have asthma, hay fever or are diabetic, or if there is a chance you are pregnant.
  • CT Spine – No preparation is necessary. Please tell us if you are allergic to iodine, seafood, have asthma, hay fever or are diabetic, or if there is a chance you are pregnant.

Fluoroscopy
Some fluoroscopy exams require preparation. You will be given specific instructions when you schedule your appointment. Please tell us if there is a chance you are pregnant.

GI Series
You will be given specific instructions when you schedule your appointment. Please tell us if there is a chance you are pregnant.

Mammogram
Do not use deodorant, perfume, powder, creams, lotions or medications on the breast or underarm area before having your mammogram. Please tell us if there is a chance you are pregnant.

MRI
You may eat and drink normally. Please tell us if there is a chance you are pregnant, or if you are claustrophobic.

Myelogram
Your doctor’s office will schedule this appointment for you and will give you specific instructions. Please tell us if you are allergic to iodine, seafood, have asthma, hay fever or are diabetic, or if there is a chance you are pregnant.

Nuclear Medicine
Your doctor’s office will schedule this appointment for you and will give you specific instructions. Please tell us if there is a chance you are pregnant.

ULTRASOUND

  • Abdominal Sonogram – Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the day before the exam.
  • Renal Sonogram – No special preparation is necessary. You may eat and drink normally.
  • Pelvic Sonogram – Drink 32 ounces of water within a 15-minute period, one hour before your exam. It is important your bladder is full for the exam. Do not urinate or defecate one hour prior to the exam.
